What Is NAD+

What is NAD+ and how can it help you? Research shows that taking NAD can improve so many things including: - improved brain function - increase vascular health which would improve blood pressure, heart rate, and exercise recovery - improved liver function and increased capacity to regenerate - improve muscle strength, mass, and recovery - improve insulin sensitivity and reduce inflammation - reduce body fat - improve immune function

Hello and welcome, you're listening to Functional Wellness with Dr. Alison DiBarto Goggin and today we are covering a nutrient that is so important for your health but is commonly overlooked or taken the wrong way.

So if you are feeling tired, run down, chronically sick and inflamed, NAD might be for you!

As a personal experiment, I have been working on breaking down my own biofilm in my gut because of my chronic viral load with epstein barr and autoimmune issues. And over the weekend, I ended up with my second infection with a virus that I can't name here. I'm assuming that a biofilm opened that was hoarding this virus and my immune system was alerted, which is great news! But also left me pretty sick. The first time I had this infection, I was down for two weeks and left with long haulers, however, this weekend I used high doses of NAD and other nutrition, which I will cover in a minute, and on day 3, I was feeling back to myself with no aches, pains, brain fog. So, I can say that I am true believer now in NAD, and I'm excited to see how this can help me continue to improve my health!

As we jump into all this information, I would love for you to join my Metabolism Makeover Challenge! We are starting on October 17 and the link to join is in the description. This will be a 90 day program and you can grab your MetaPWR kit that I’ll be talking about now and join us in the group for free.

What I do want to say before we move on here is that the FDA states that only drugs and surgery are preventative and considered treatment. NAD can not be considered a treatment for any issue, but it can be nutritional support for cellular health.

NAD stands for Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide and is found in every one of our cells. It is incredibly important for all of our biological processes, supporting our health, energy, and longevity.

And as we get older, NAD naturally declines and is associated with age related issues like metabolic disease, loss of muscle and strength, brain and cognitive decline, and even cancer.

Like I said, NAD is found in every cell and it is mainly in the mitochondria, where we produce energy, and the nucleus, where we store our genetic information. So when there are issues with NAD we don't make as much energy and our genes are not given the cofactors they need to make proteins and complete processes which leads to our bodies breaking down over time.

NAD+ serves as a pivotal regulator of gene expression so when you hear that you can change how your genes express illness or health, and how your lifestyle affects how your genes work, we can affect this directly with NAD. Another common term you might be familiar with is epigenetics. Epigenetics describes how our environment can affect how our genes express health. Now this is different from genetic changes, which are permanent like eye color, where epigenetics means that your genes can be turned on or off, or making a gene active or inactive by enzymes and proteins.

Factors such as smoking, stress, exercise, and diet all affect epigenetic changes as well as trauma. Which makes NAD an incredibly important factor in supporting gene health and how your body recovers and changes. Because NAD can modify gene expression and repair DNA, this is such an important factor in our health and healing.

Now our body is constantly creating its own NAD, mainly in the liver from dietary sources. Our cells have specific enzymes that use NAD, it's actually over 300 enzymes that rely on NAD, and these enzymes are known to impact aging, regulate metabolism, stress responses, and even neuron growth. These enzymes are also found in immune cells and can help prevent or support neurodegenerative diseases and traumatic brain injuries!

So if you are depleted in NAD, your cells aren't getting enough, or your cells aren't able to recycle the NAD properly, you can see how this breakdown can lead to immune, energy, metabolism, and degenerative issues.

So how do we fix this?

First, lifestyle is the most important. This includes exercising for 20 minutes daily, eating a balanced diet, and really fine-tuning your daily circadian rhythm with adequate sleep and waking up at the same time every day.

The next step is taking NAD and its precursors in supplement form. This is where the MetaPWR advantage comes in. Because it is in powdered form it is much easier to digest and absorb and you can add it to any liquid as well.

Research shows that taking NAD can improve so many things including:

- improved brain function

- increase vascular health which would improve blood pressure, heart rate, and exercise recovery

- improved liver function and increased capacity to regenerate

- improve muscle strength, mass, and recovery

- improve insulin sensitivity and reduce inflammation

- reduce body fat

- improve immune function

You heard me say that over 300 enzymes in our body require NAD to function and help our body thrive, so this is a major key nutrient in our health. This is something you will definitely want to add to your daily protocol.

You can get your daily dose of NAD, as well as other nutritional support like vitamin C, collagen, hyaluronic acid, and biotin through doTERRA’s new product called MetaPWR advantage. Add one packet to a glass of water and drink 1-3 per day. You want to add this to cold water or juice because heat will denature proteins and breakdown the collagen and it won’t be as effective. For people like me with chronic health issues, you might want to take more, however most people are seeing a huge difference in their energy and health with one per day.

So grab your kit with the link below and sign up for the challenge, You will get access to our group, private chat and accountability partners, meal plans that are customizable, and consults with me are included. We start October 17th so join us now and you can feel amazing and so different by the end of the year!

Thank you for tuning in, make sure to like and subscribe to stay up to date with all of our podcasts and we will see you next time.
